Get to know Tess

Tess is a dedicated child therapist who specializes in supporting children ages 3–10 and their families during some of the most important stages of emotional and social development. She is deeply committed to helping children find their voice—especially when they may not yet have the words to fully express what they’re feeling. Through her work, Tess helps children build confidence, strengthen emotional awareness, and develop practical skills to navigate challenges at home, at school, and in their relationships.

At the heart of Tess’s approach is Child-Centered Play Therapy, a developmentally appropriate, evidence-based method that allows children to communicate through play rather than traditional talk therapy. Using toys, art materials, storytelling, and imaginative play, Tess creates a safe and supportive environment where children can explore their inner world. In this space, children are free to express emotions, process experiences, and practice problem-solving in ways that feel natural to them. Through this process, they build emotional regulation skills, resilience, and a stronger, more secure sense of self.

Tess also recognizes that meaningful change often happens within the context of relationships—especially the parent-child connection. That’s why she offers parent coaching and Filial Therapy, a form of family play therapy that empowers caregivers to become active participants in their child’s emotional growth. She guides parents in using therapeutic play techniques at home, helping them strengthen their bond with their child, better understand their child’s emotional needs, and respond to challenging behaviors with confidence and empathy.

Her clinical experience includes supporting children with a range of needs, including anxiety, OCD, ADHD, autism, emotional regulation difficulties, and major life transitions such as changes in family structure. Tess approaches each child from a neurodiversity-affirming and strengths-based perspective, honoring each child’s unique way of experiencing the world while focusing on their inherent strengths and capabilities.

Tess continues to expand her expertise through specialized training. She is Level 1 trained in Theraplay, a Certified AutPlay Therapy practitioner, and is currently working toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). These credentials reflect her commitment to providing high-quality, developmentally attuned care.

Outside of her professional work, Tess enjoys nurturing her own creativity and well-being. She spends time with her family, engages in crafting, practices yoga, and relaxes at home with her husband and their two kitties. This balance of creativity, connection, and self-care mirrors the values she brings into her work with children and families every day.

Tess is a child therapist who specializes in working with children ages 3–10 and their families. She is passionate about helping children express their emotions, build confidence, and develop skills to navigate challenges at home, school, and in relationships.
