Get to know Amy

Amy Gustafson, MSW, LCSW—a thoughtful and compassionate clinician dedicated to supporting young adults (18+) as they move through life’s transitions, challenges, and periods of self-discovery. With four years of clinical experience and a Master of Social Work from Aurora University, Amy brings both academic depth and real-world insight into her therapeutic work.

Amy’s clinical focus spans a wide range of concerns, including trauma, anxiety, OCD, neurodivergence, relationship dynamics, LGBTQ+ experiences, medical trauma, and caregiver support. Her approach reflects a deep understanding that each individual’s story is complex and shaped by both internal experiences and external systems. She is particularly attuned to how trauma and stress can manifest not only emotionally, but physically—fueling her interest in the mind-body connection and integrative healing.

What makes Amy’s perspective especially unique is her professional background prior to becoming a therapist. She spent two decades working in higher education, supporting students through academic, personal, and developmental challenges. Her roles—including adjunct teaching—gave her a front-row seat to the evolving needs of young adults and emerging professionals. This experience continues to inform her empathetic, developmentally aware approach, helping her meet clients exactly where they are in their journey.

In the therapy room, Amy is known for her warm, collaborative style. She approaches each session with curiosity and respect, creating an environment where clients feel safe to explore their thoughts, emotions, and identities without judgment. Rather than positioning herself as the sole expert, she views therapy as a partnership—one where clients are empowered to better understand themselves and make meaningful, values-aligned changes.

Outside of her clinical work, Amy embraces a life rich in curiosity and connection. She finds joy and grounding in nature, often spending time rockhounding, hiking, or forest bathing with her family. Her fascination with neuroscience and plant life reflects her ongoing interest in how humans connect—with themselves, with others, and with the natural world. And in the midst of it all, she doesn’t forget to have fun—she’s always ready to turn up the music and enjoy a spontaneous daily dance party, bringing a sense of playfulness and balance into her life.
